A group of companies called the Agricultural Climate Market Collaborative believes that lack of “transparency” is one of major road blocks to acceptance. To address transparency, the Collaborative developed eleven principles to guide carbon ecosystem marketers when forming these new contracts with growers.
When it comes to convincing growers to use cover crops in their operations, people make all the difference. That’s what the Nature Conservancy discovered in a study they funded that was done by a Purdue University professor and a researcher who had looked at farms in Indiana, Illinois and Iowa counties with relatively high adoption rates of cover crops.
Data pulled from new sensor technology shows soil health practices in Iowa, Illinois and Indiana moving in the right direction, says the Conservation Technology Information Center (CTIC). Other states will come online soon.
