Cody Galligan runs a certified organic, highly diversified vegetable operation on seven acres, with local sales through a CSA, farm-to-table events and direct to restaurants.
He grows cover crops of sorghum, sunn hemp and iron clay peas mainly in the summer off season to aid in weed and nematode suppression.
Cover crops are seeded with a spreader and lightly disked into the soil. In the late summer or fall, they are mowed with a flail mower, which leaves behind well-chopped, evenly distributed residue.
