A No-Till & Cover Crop Experiment

In this video, Canadian farmer Jared Hamilton shares his latest steps in converting sod fields into thriving pastures — marking the return of livestock to his farm for the first time in over 40 years. This project is more than a simple conversion; it’s about breathing new life into the soil and creating a resilient ecosystem that sustains itself. In the video, Hamilton walks through different approaches to seeding, from bare soil to unharvested sod, even experimenting with areas treated with Roundup. By using a no-till drill, he has kept soil disturbance minimal, respecting the soil’s structure and the microbes that work beneath the surface.

A Farmer’s First Cover Crop

In this video, watch as one farmer admires their first ever cover crop seeds which have germinated. She planted Austrian Winter Peas, Cereal Rye, Daikon Radish, Crimson Clover, and Fava Beans. While it’s getting a little late in the season to put down cover crops, she wanted to attempt to cover the ground over winter and start rebuilding her soil. The uncharacteristically warm fall allowed her to do this late fall sowing of cover crops.
