Davaus, the manufacturer of SeedRight Seed Plates, recently announced the major role of S.I. Distributing in the distribution of their patent-pending seed plates.

“SeedRight Seed Plates allow growers with John Deere, Precision Planting, and Kinze vacuum meters, as well as Kinze Brush Meters, the flexibility to accurately plant cover crops, wheat and other small grains,” Dave Burgei, president of S.I. Distributing, in Spencerville, Ohio, said. 

“We are extremely proud and happy to offer this very innovative product line,” Burgei continued.

“The SeedRight large-cell discs, for John Deere, Precision Planting and Kinze vacuum meters, accurately plant small grains, such as wheat, oats, cereal rye and triticale,” Burgei said. The large-cell seed plates are for larger-sized seeds, commonly less than 35,000 seeds per pound.

“If you are looking to accurately plant cover crops, such as radishes, turnips, crimson clover, rape seed and rye grasses, then the recommendation is the SeedRight small-cell discs,” Burgei continued.  The small-cell seed plates are for smaller-sized seeds, commonly greater than 35,000 seeds per pound.

For Kinze Brush Type mechanical meters, the SeedRight Backer Plate works together with the OEM plates to enable the brush type meter to accurately plant small grains and cover crops. It helps to create a seal around the edge of your plate to avoid small seeds leaking out. The backer plate fits on top of your existing plate and is used to plant wheat, buckwheat, oats, cereal rye, annual rye, sorghum, sorghum Sudangrass, sunflowers, teff grass, triticale, radish, turnips, crimson clover and alfalfa.

There are proven significant agronomic advantages to using a planter, compared to a grain drill: Growers are able to cover more acres in less time, while enjoying more control over depth and population. All of this results in less seed and fuel, reduced seeding rates, increased germination, and an overall better stand.  

“Planting with a planter, compared to a grain drill, simply improves planting. This includes improved emergence, stand uniformity and accuracy,” Burgei said.  

“SeedRight Seed Plates also expand a planter’s capability, especially if a farmer does not own a drill or are looking to replace one,” Burgei continued.

Fifteen different seeds were tested and proven repeatedly with the SeedRight plates. Then 66 rate charts were created, based on transmission and crop, to provide a guide.  

The six items in the product line include: small-cell and large-cell seed plates for John Deere vacuum meters; small-cell and large-cell seed plates for the Kinze EdgeVac, large-cell vacuum meter disc for the Precision Planting vSet and the Kinze Brush Meter Backer Plate.
